I was going to start my own thread on this. I hate brass. I just replaced the brass shower valve today with a chrome one. I wanted brushed nickel but those are too expensive and I can live with chrome.
I also spent 11 bucks and removed the brass lever handle that goes in the bathroom door. I bought a satin nickel finish one that looks really good. There are probably 40 brass handles on all the cabinets and I suspect I will be replacing those.
The things I won't be replacing are the shower surround, and the expensive swivel reading lights and wall sconces. I also have some flat pieces of brass that are mounted to oak blocks used for light switches. I almost forgot the brass light over the bathroom mirror.
Does anybody know if painting these things with some decent spray paint can look decent?
Dave, I painted the brass reading lights by sanding the brass to break the gloss, using a spray primer and then painting them. And the brass light over the bathroom mirror can be replaced for under $20 from Home Depot. You might want to check with Singletons rv Salvage in Rochester WA for cabinet hardware. Wall Sconces can be replaced with residential 110v fixtures and you can rewire them for 12v. Good luck!

OK thanks for all the replies. The reason I want to get rid of the 50amp cord is it covers the trap door on the floor of the compartment. I have to muscle the cord around to gain access to the door everytime I run my 30 amp extension cord to the power post. As I will never need the 50 amp I don't see a reason to have it. Thanks again for the suggestions.

Zack, I'm with you. My rig looked like a Vegas hotel room with all the brass and glass. We removed the mirrored brass sliders on the closet and replaced them with a nice curtain. (Easier to make the bed now too.) And we were lucky to have a full size tub, so removed the brass and glass slider on that and replaced with shower curtain. Replaced all the hardware on cabinets ($) and brass light fixtures ($$) and plumbing fixtures ($$$!) but it really makes a big difference. Our 11 year old 5er is as up to date as the new ones! travelin-circus has it right, it will prevent it from traveling, but to answer your question, I would take it to a body shop or a boat yard for repair. Good luck!

Tony, on a lot of 5ers, you can flip the axle so it is riding under the leaf spring. I did it on my old Alpenlite and gained a few inches. Somebody on here can probably give you a better description of the process. I did mine 10 years ago and can't remember exactly how I did it! :? :h CRS?

Well first off, welcome to the forum Dan. I've found that most manuals that come from the manufacturer are so generic they do very little to answer my questions. If you are looking for help on your systems and appliances however, you can usually punch in the model numbers onto your search engine and download manuals online. Removing 50 amp for 30 amp
Here's the thing. My 5th wheel has about 25' of inch thick 50amp cord coiled up in it's compartment. I use a dogbone adapter to a 30amp extension cord; much easier to run out to the power post. My rig has only one air conditioner and I can't imagine the need to ever installing a second one. I'm tired of carrying an extra 50lbs of 50amp cord that is always in the way and that I don't need. Is it possible to remove it and run 30amp, and if so how. Or is this just a silly idea. Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes JB a "floating floor" is either a floor that locks together like laminate or in my case adheres to each other instead of being adhered to the floor. There is a lip of about one inch on the underside of the plank with adhesive and a matching lip of adhesive on the top of the adjoining plank. (See picture) They work like contact cement with each other. The reason I prefer this vinyl plank flooring over laminate, is if there is a water emergency, you don't have to worry about it swelling, as it is waterproof. Been down two years now and doing fine.

Welcome to the forum "Joe" :B. Chances are, when they built your rig, they considered the weight of a booth style dinette and a sleeper type sofa as options. I would think that the slide could take the additional weight. Do you need the extra sleeping quarters on a regular basis or just for the occassional overnighter? If it's the latter, you could just use inflatable beds for those times instead of hauling all that additional weight around. Again, welcome to the forum.

I tried the peel and stick 12" tiles and like an earlier poster said, prep is everything. I would suggest TrafficMaster "Allure". It's a floating floor (adheres to each other) in 36"x8" strips. When I bought mine it was available in only 3 wood patterns, now they have fake tile, granite, cork, bamboo, etc. It is very easy to work with and best of all is only about $1.69 a sq ft.

Congratulations Countrygirl2 on your new rig. We are headed to the show tomorow morning. Here is a checklist I found on the web.PDI CHECKLIST. Hope this helps. Also, if you have a friend with a video camera to video everything they tell you, it is a great way to go back and remember what they said. Your head is going to be spinning on the last thing they told you while they are going on to something else. Have fun, and again, congratulations! PS, the deal is already done, so don't worry about it, just enjoy and don't look back.

Paul, I agree with Brobox, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. That being said, if you are going to go with anything, I would suggest Liquid Roof. This is EDPM that you apply with a roller. I've had both aluminum and EDPM and found the aluminum to be less labor intensive.

If your truck is lugging going up hill it could be that it is in a regen mode. Cleaning out the DPF. The driver infromation center will tell you this if you have a job 3 truck.
